Equine Photography in Tunisia
September 29 to October 7, 2018
I think this has the potential to be one of my favorite workshop locations. In fact, someone asked me a few years ago what my “ideal” workshop would look like, and this pretty much fits the description!! This location has been in the planning for a while now and we are excited to finally offer it for 2018.
With a balmy, sand-fringed Mediterranean coast, scented with jasmine and sea breezes, Tunisia is prime territory for a straightforward sun-sand-and-sea holiday. Just add horses “at liberty”, running free on the beach, and horses in the mystical dunes of inland Tunisia to make for a totally different photographic experience! What combination could be better than this? The photographic adventure will be a one of a kind experience for the equine photographer.
Unlike many other workshop we have offered in the past, we feel the experience of amazing colors, beautiful light and the opportunity to experience the magnificent horses of the region, as well as the colorful, exotic and vibrant culture, will be an unforgettable experience for participants. We also feel that some of the shoots we set up will have a “mystical” feel.
We have chosen Martine and Mohammed’s farm as a location for several reasons. The most important one is: It meets all the desirable attributes that we look for in a shooting location. It has a high enough white wall, comparable to an arena wall in Portugal that is some photographer’s favorite place to shoot (Insiders will know what I mean.) They have beautiful Arab-Barb stallions and these stallions are used to playing together in their paddock. On top of that, these stallions are used to being at the beach and inside the water, which is very shallow at their beaches. There are also stunning old buildings and ruins which we can use for photoshoots. And the good news is: Almost every place we have to go to can be reached in 15 or 20 minutes. No long drives, no waste of time on the road.
We will be staying at a hotel by the beach on the island of Djerba, and going to different shoot locations each day. This is a 7-day, 8-night workshop that includes accommodations, travel to and from the airport, and transportation to the different shooting locations each day.
There will be instruction on editing and processing images, as well as many other photographic opportunities. Emphasis is on shooting, being creative and having fun. Tony will share his entire creative process with participants… how to see and work with light, planning a shoot with the right angles and perspectives, choosing backgrounds, camera settings during the shoot, and all that goes into the creation of a dynamic image after it has been shot.
Cost is $3800 per person. Limited to 12 participants.
Non-refundable deposit is $1800
